Pepsi Conducting Research to Change Formula
Friday, March 19, 2010 4:35Soft drink makers have long felt the urge to revitalize their name brand drinks, especially those with high levels of popularity, when they feel they can offer a new taste sensation that could increase their market share, but history has proven that this does not always work out in the way that they might have hoped. Coca Cola reinvented its flavor decades ago and the result was a real problem that had to be addressed as resentful consumers switched to other drink brands in an effort to send a message to the company that they did not appreciate the changing of the standard formula they had grown accustomed to for years. This lead to the the switch from New Coke back to Coca Cola Classic, the predominant brand the company offers now. The old formula was reinstated, but the Pepsi Cola company is doing something along these lines today on a whole new level. Instead of simply changing on a whim, Pepsi is seeking to change its formula to something that will be more healthful for consumers. They are steering away from the traditional sweeteners to embrace no calorie was to sweeten their beverage such as the use of the South American and Asian herb stevia. While it remains to be seen how this could affect things for the company, consumers are responding positively to the news.
If the company can manage to revitalize its market share by making a health oriented change then a lot of positive things could be in the works for the massive consumer base that regularly purchases soft drinks around the world.
